The photo above is one of our favorite client examples of “what-not-to-do” or "where-not-to-stand” in a big excavation. CEECON was the general contractor and remediation equipment provider for several environmental projects during the expansion of San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Our work involved remediation of contaminated groundwater, PCB transformer disposal, asbestos disposal, fuel line venting, and the excavation, treatment, and transport of 50,000 tons of contaminated soil.
When time allows, the least expensive option can be on-site above-ground treatment of soil impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons. Dramatic reductions to near or below laboratory detection levels in diesel and oil concentrations can often be seen in a matter of months. On other projects, completing the project in the shortest time frame is the goal. Above is a photo from a site in the Bay Area of California where 7,000 cubic yards of hydrocarbon-impacted soil was excavated and disposed of offsite. Our client needed to avoid severe loss-of-use penalties by finishing up the work as soon as possible. CEECON personnel coordinated excavation, de-watering and water treatment, soil staging, truck loading, traffic control, and all safety matters on this project. CEECON performed the soil profiling, manifesting, and disposal coordination required to complete this work under a very tight time schedule. This work was performed on time, under budget, with no safety incidents, and minimum heavy equipment downtime.
